The Challenge

The folks behind The Plot came to us with an idea based out of compassion. They had an idea of modernizing the process of creating memorial sites. These sites needed an interface that was easy to use, and would integrate features such as privacy options, social media sharing, video uploads, custom domains as well as contact lists. The sites also needed to look elegant and offer a range of customization options for users.

Interactive Concepts

Key to the success of the project was visualizing the user interfaces needed to to create and administer the memorial sites. These application screens needed to be fault tolerant and intuitive for the user, while still remaining sleek. Curious Minds created a series of interactive wireframes for the client to review. We worked through several revisions, and vetted these against the project stakeholders until we where satisfied that the user interface supported the business plan.

Beautifully Themed

Once we had the general layout of our user interfaces, we turned to the data model of the memorial site itself. These sites needed to have a range of themes that could be applied, so that the user could change the look and feel at will. In order to do so, we worked with The Plot’s designers to create a series of themes that would be comparable with the data structures that warehoused the memorial site data.

Separating Concerns

Our main goal during the development of The Plot was to separate the application layer from the presentation layer, allowing each to be upgraded independently of each other. We created an standards compliant API using the Laravel framework, and connected that to a single page application created in EmberJs. This combination allowed our development team to turn around the UI in a rapid fashion. This modular architecture also allows us to completely replace or add user interfaces as needed. Conclusion
